Indian danseue Shobhana to perform on Dec 16

Acclaimed danseuse and actor Shobana will present the Qatar premiere of her latest production ‘Dancing Drums’ on December 16 at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

‘Dancing Drums’ is a quest to produce Indian performing traditions in a collage of rhythm, kaleidoscope of colours, sensual poetry and traditional Bharatanatyam.

Shobana and her accompanying dancers will be complimented by some of the best live musicians in India rendering a mix of Indian classical, Qawali and Bollywood styles apart from instrumentalists on acoustic and electronic accompaniments.

“In ‘Dancing Drums’, I interweave all my mediums to transport the discerning art lover in to what I would like to call a state of trance,” Shobana said. “Since it is live music, most of the choreography is based on instinct and on the spot creation,” she added.

Shobana is well-known for her unique thematic productions like ‘Maya Ravan’, and ‘Krishna.’ The dance recital is presented in Qatar by Sree Kerala Varma College Qatar Community in association with Sky Media.
