Hamad International Airport (HIA) has served 7.3mn passengers during the first quarter of 2015, representing a 17% increase on the number of passengers who travelled through Doha International Airport (previous hub) during the same period in 2014.
A total of 7,360,308 passengers passed through HIA's gates during the first quarter of 2015: 2,589,403 departing, arriving and transiting in January; 2,285,221 in February; and 2,485,684 passenger movements in March. 
In the same period in 2014, HIA recorded 6,294,910 passengers travelling through the Doha International Airport: 2,191,148 in January; 1,973,823 in February; and 2,129,639 in March.
Cargo tonnage totalled 249,769 tonnes in the first quarter of 2015, representing a 9% increase compared to 228,831 tonnes of cargo transported in the same period in 2014.
HIA also saw an increase in aircraft movements with 49,208 operating during the first quarter of 2015, a 14% increase in aircraft take-off and landing at the airport compared to 43,155 movements during same period last year.
“The statistics highlights Qatar’s rapid development and reinforces Qatar’s position as a global hub for air transport,” HIA’s COO Badr Mohammed al-Meer said.
“HIA is fully prepared for the rise in aircraft movements and passenger traffic expected during the summer, owing to its sophisticated facilities and integrated services that can guarantee passengers a unique travel experience,” he added.
