The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has destroyed more than 135,000 pieces of counterfeit electrical appliances seized during various inspection campaigns at the local market. This was part of the MEC’s efforts to combat commercial counterfeiting and exercise tighter control on the local market. The shops, where such appliances were spotted, were issued reports for violating Law No. 7 for 2008 on consumer protection, in addition to being closed for varying periods.
