Emir, Trump in phone talk on resolving Gulf crisis

His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held a telephone conversation yesterday evening with US President Donald Trump.

During the phone call, they discussed the latest developments related to the Gulf crisis in light of Kuwait’s efforts to resolve it through diplomatic channels and through dialogue between all parties to ensure the security and stability of the region.

The US President briefed the Emir on the results of his communication with Saudi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud as well as the discussions held in this regard with the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, within the framework of his mediation.

Following that, a telephone conversation was held between His Highness the Emir and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, based on co-ordination of the US president, where they stressed the need to resolve this crisis by sitting down to the dialogue to ensure the unity and stability of the GCC countries.

His Highness the Emir welcomed the proposal of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia during the call to assign two envoys to resolve controversial issues in a way that does not affect the sovereignty of states.

On Thursday, during his telephone conversation with Trump, the Emir expressed his appreciation for the Kuwaiti emir’s efforts as well as his keenness to pursue resolving the current dispute.

His Highness the Emir also welcomed the US president’s position on the need to resolve this crisis through dialogue to ensure the unity and stability of the GCC countries.

In this regard, the Emir stressed the firm position of the State of Qatar on resolving differences through constructive dialogue.



Kuwait efforts geared towards de-escalating tension

Kuwait has expressed its resolve towards efforts to end the conflict between Qatar and the four GCC states plus Egypt, said a source at the Foreign Ministry yesterday.

The source affirmed that Kuwait was for de-escalating the tension among Arab countries, calling for efforts to end the dire situation.

Those involved in the conflict are well aware of the consequences of its continuation, said the source who indicated that Kuwait reminded the GCC countries that it was important to end the dispute.

The source affirmed that Kuwait will continue its mediation efforts and affirmed that it was sure that an optimistic outcome will be on the horizon. – Kuna
