Procedure to Obtain Qatar Smart ID card

 

Application Process

Follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Visit the office for e-Gate Cards.
  • Show your ID or GCC passport.
  • Pay appropriate fees; for one year you have to pay QR200, for 2 years- QR250 and for 3 years- QR300
  • Go to the immigration department in Madinat Khalifa with your ID card (Gate 1 or 2 depending on your visa type).
  • There have your photo taken at a booth, and fingerprint of two hands. Immigration staff will assist you in this process.
  • Wait in queue to get a token and wait for it to be called.
  • Go to the counter when your token is called. Tell them that your fingerprinting is done on the system and request for the Smart ID for one/two/three years. You can pay for the e-Gate card/Smart ID for up to 3 years. Immigration will then swap your Qatari ID for a chipped ID card.

 

If you are an e-Card (Smart ID) holder, you should be able to skip immigration and passport control and use the e-Gate, as long as you have your exit permit.

How to renew e-Gate card (Smart ID card)

 1) You have to get an electronic form from your company with your name in Arabic. Take that form along with your ID card, old e-Gate card and a credit/debit card for making the payment.

 2) You have to go to the Immigration building just off to the Shammal Road near Landmark Mall. When you go through security and enter the courtyard of the Immigration building. Go to entrance number 2 on your left, this will open into a big room with lot of seats. Go straight across the room, turn right at the snack kiosk. There are some large booths on the left wall. Your photo and fingerprinting for e-Gate will be taken there.

3) One of staffs at this booth will take your ID card and the piece of paper. She will take you to a booth, and then take your picture, scan your fingerprint and have you write your signature on a special electronic pad. She will then sign the paper and give it back to you with your ID card.

4) Then you have to go back to the entrance. There you can find a big desk with two or three civil attendants behind it. Go to them and tell them that you came there for e-Gate. They will give you a ticket number.

5) When they call your ticket number give them the documents, ID card, and credit/ATM card. Payment will be made using the credit/ATM card. They will keep both the piece of paper and your ID card. That is because they have a new system where they have integrated E-Gate with your ID card so they will issue you a brand-new ID card that has E-Gate built in.

6) You have to wait until they call you to collect your new card. They might tell you to come back to the booth after few minutes. Generally the wait time is anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes.

7) The final step is to activate your E-Gate card. Your E-card can be activated in the two machines that similar to ATM machines behind the snack kiosk. You can also seek the help of the attendants who will assist you to enter your details and activate your card.
