Doha passenger jailed, fined for onboard uproar

The Court of Appeal has upheld the ruling of a lower court against a Moroccan man, sentencing him to seven months in jail and a fine of QR23,000 for creating trouble on a passenger aircraft while coming to Doha.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the defendant got intoxicated while on board and started to create trouble for the other passengers. He also started to attack a stewardess and insulted her. When the plane landed in Doha, he was arrested by the airport security and after the necessary investigations he was referred to the court, which eventually convicted him.

However, the defendant appealed the ruling against him at the Court of Appeal, which rejected his plea on account of his bad criminal record of him. The court saw that he had three previous reports of being intoxicated against him. He was also convicted in three cheque bouncing cases and one of municipal violations.
